Team Staal vs. Team Lidstrom

over the weekend some of the best hockey players in the NHL took part in the All Star Game and Super Skills Competition in Raleigh, NC. Team Staal started off on Saturday taking the skills competition by a score of 33-22. Scores were based on a number of different skill tests. for example hitting targets in the net and hardest shot. this year they had two new competitions. the team skills relay race and the shootout challenge. the team skills comp. was a series of different stations including the entire team doing a different skill. they started of with one-timers from one side of the ice. four players had to accurately hit the net raising the puck over an object sitting on the ice rising about six or seven inches from the ice. they had to get three pucks in the net before the next station could start. then a player at center ice had to make six cross ice passes at different lengths. the first three could be on the ice and they had to hit about a foot wide net. the next three passes had to be made over an object that rose about 2 to 3 inches off the ice and again trying to hit the foot wide nets at different lenghts. then after the passers were able to hit those targets the next person have to weave around some cones with a puck. then another player had to stick handle through seven or eight pucks i cant really remember how many. the pucks were seperated only inches apart and they had to go through the pucks twice. then once that was completed the next and final player had to hit four targets positioned in the net as fast as he could. after all of those competitions were completed team Staal came out on top. But then in a highly defensive battle........ team Lidstrom won in the All-Star game 11-10.

Ovechkin vs. Crosby

ahhh yes the two young phenoms from different parts of the world. which is the best? there are alot of arguments for both great players but personally i like ovechkin by far. since the two have been in the nhl sports writers and critics have been comparing the two and breaking every little statistic down to see whos the best. ovechkin has 370 points to this day and has played over 80 games in each of his three seasons in the league. crosby has only broken 80 games once and they both have played three seasons in the nhl. ovechkin has scored at least 45 times each season and crosby hasnt even broken 40. but crosby does own the assist department with averaging 65 assists per season while ovechkin averages 49. ovechkin dominates htough with the shots on goal with 1577 and crosby only has 847. so i think the statistics prove that ovechkin is the best with the puck with a shot on net but with the games crosby has missed you have to give him some props for not being to far behind the russian. crosby i think is the playmaker type who looks for the passes instead of the shot right away compared to ovechkin who would maybe look for the shot first. but there was one little play that cauhgt my eye a couple of years ago that might have swayed my decision. take a look at the first video above the post box. if u got an arguement then comment back.

WTF

wat the hell is up the the NHL not letting nick lidstrom and pavel datsyuk play in the first game after the all star break? they wer not allowed to play due to the reason that they didnt want to play in the all star game. they didnt want to play due to some injuries. so the NHL wouldnt let them play the next game. they ended up losing the game they wer not allowed to play. lidstrom and datsyuk are a key part to the detroit red wings hockey club, and they team definately missed their skills on the ice from wat i could see. i watched the whole game and while the wings looked good in the frist period they soon started showing signs of breaking down in the late second and third periods. rick nash of the columbus blue jackets ended up lighting the lamp three times for the natural hat trick and not to mention the overtime winner beating chris osgood on a hard angled shot off of a rebound. the wings still got the point for the overtime period but didnt end up gettin the second for the win. they could have used that point due to the tight race in the western conference. all im asking is why even bother? its their deciosn if they wanna play or not. the legue shouldnt have a say in wat the players wanna do.

My Opinion

In my opinion i would like to see them all come back. I dont know if its possible but i would really like to see them come back. all the teams now have a alternate jersey that sometimes symbolizes the franchise before their new team. for example, the phoenix coyotes have beared the symbol on their chests of the before winnipeg jets, then theres the colorado avalanche, they used to be the quebec nordiques until they moved the team to colorado, also the minnesota north stars are now the dallas stars and the hartford whalers are now the carolina hurricanes. it would be nice to see the old teams wear their jerseys proud in the NHL once again.

The Forgetten Few

The forgotten few, the old skewl hockey teams that have arrived and left.
